What Is The Nature Of Your Emergency?

Kevin Kirk & Onomatopoeia In Concert – Live DVD

“Practically unboxable,” “rhythmically diverse,” and “eminently listenable” are comments that have all been applied to the music that pours from the stage into the souls of the audience when Kevin Kirk and Onomatopoeia perform.

Idaho Public Television captured them in January of 2009 at Boise’s historic Egyptian Theatre for a one-hour concert filmed in full high definition (HD), using 12 cameras to capture all the action.

Onomatopoeia is made up of seven talented Idaho musicians. In addition to Kirk at the piano, it includes Tom Tompkins on viola, Mike Seifrit on electric bass, Jon Hyneman on drums, Pat Hyneman on percussion, Greg Perkins on saxes, and Phil Garonzik on flute and sax. Together they serve up their own high-energy jazz. Their all-original compositions keep feet tapping long after the program is over. Current members and alumni of the Treasure Valley Youth Symphony add a symphonic component to the concert.

The program includes humorous glimpses into the personalities within the group, with a few segments of behind-the-scenes material.

The hour-long show includes these songs:

  • Child’s Play
  • Mikroskapick
  • Filing a Thelonious Report
  • Johanna
  • The Twiddle Riddle
  • Gather Us In
  • Martha’s Smile
  • Book of Kells, Cliff Notes
  • No Excusanova
  • Not All His Dogs Are Barking
